This is an early Butler & Wilson hand brooch, a book piece which features in The Butler & Wilson Collection 'Rough Diamonds' by Vivienne Becker, published in 1990.
The gold-plated hand has long, slender fingers with red enamel fingernails, wears a ruby red crystal ring and a bracelet bezel-set with a ruby red crystal.
Hand-shaped brooches - the hand of friendship - originated in Victorian times and were popular again in the 1930s and 1940s. Cartier created a collection of hand-shaped jewels in the late 1930s. This particular hand brooch is Butler & Wilson's interpretation of Coro's patented 'Friendship hand brooch' from 1944 and has become a much-loved Butler & Wilson classic.

With early Butler & Wilson mark B & W in circular plaque on reverse side. In very good vintage condition and supplied in original pink box.
