A beautiful late Victorian sweetheart style fine silver foliate crescent brooch, with hallmarks for Birmingham 1898.

Closes with a 'C' clasp.

Length 4.5 cms.

Sweetheart brooches first began to appear in the late nineteenth century, gaining popularity during the Anglo Boer War. However it was not until the First World War that they began to be produced in prolific numbers.

Sweetheart brooches were often given to their sweethearts by members of the armed forces before they left for the front. 

In very good condition, with some small marks commensurate with its age.
